Max's New Yorker piece on Wallace (March 2009), a reader asks Max if DFW ever engaged in psychotherapy. Max replies: "I don’t know whether he tried psychoanalysis itself. I can’t imagine he wasn’t curious about it." Wallace's "Good Old Neon" suggests that he did, indeed, have at least one experience with a psychotherapist, with DFW writing again from a base of observational reportage, not pure invention. I'm not sure how you define "major" interview, but Wallace did an exclusive interview with the Wall Street Journal in May 2008 (just four months before he died) on the release of "McCain's Promise".
