Very Sweet.

I am getting married to a writer & have always wondered what it's going to be like. I write songs and not stories but this makes me so excited about the future.

Delightful.

A dozen years ago I attended a John Updike reading at Colorado College, one packed to the gills with earnest undergrads who assaulted him with the mindless questions you are also asked. I got the feeling the students were being assigned extra credit by their teacher for having hatched a question, any kind of question, no matter how banal.

This is what he did with those questions: he pondered each with profound -- extravagant -- attention, answering each at length, and, in the process, turning the question into something larger, something wonderful, a kind of new and perfect revelation.

All I can say is, darn you for thinking of this terrific idea for an article and writing it very well before I ever got a chance to try. My wife and I are both writers, and not only does your article resonate for us, it also annoys me that you thought of it first. Well done, and as other reviewers have said, very charming.

Came here from Galleycat and took a break from a novel deadline of my own to read this. It was so charming and I was so impressionable that I was forced to use my Barnes & Noble coupon to buy your books posthaste.

I'm the one in the audience always wondering about that question but am too embarrassed to ask--so thanks for filling me in. Great piece.

Love the scorecard. I'm sure my wife keeps something like that, even though we have drastically different professions.
