One of the interesting things about seeing this movie for me was that virtually all of the Japanese friends I asked about it listed Bong's as by far the best, with Gondry's next and pretty much a thumbs-down on Carax. But almost all the Americans, in various reviews and more anecdotally, rated them in the opposite order. Not really sure what that means, except that what interests Tokyoites about their own city, and what interests outsiders, is quite different. I have to admit I was completely annoyed by Carax's, which seemed in its satirization of Japanese xenophia to be--to me--borderline racist.

I saw Tokyo as well and feel similarly. I really enjoyed Gondry's film, I was intrigued by Carax's and I agree- Bong's fell slightly short. But all in all I think it was enjoyable- and definitely out the ordinary- which can be hard to find these days!

I just saw Tokyo! and it was pretty sick. The middle mini-movie “Merde” was my favorite. It reminded me sort of The Grinch, except more sinister. I saw Paris, I love you and thought it was too boring. This movie does the same concept a lot better.
