I am not sure if the situation is as simple as the US and its Western allies abandoning Karzai. Anyone who becomes President - Abdullah or Ghani will also have to made the back door deals that Karzai has been making. Its easy to say that all the the 'unsavoury elements' want is a share of the spoils. Everybody wants the share of the spoils. The issue is to keep working in AF. No matter who becomes President, the challenges are huge. We need to be looking at other things than corruption and poor performance. We need to give people time and manageable goals - more than anything else. And, a bit of faith, hope, generousity, and kindness would not hurt either.

Good to read an accessible essay on a confusing topic. So torn on how I feel about our country's involvement in Afghanistan, but feel more informed now.

I've been meaning to pick up Destiny Disrupted and am looking forward to doing so.
