As for the interview in general, readers really get a peak of how the present state of the economy effects all walks of life. As for the illnesses, I can really relate to the asthma. Mandy is not alone. People who don’t have this ailment don’t realize the severity of it until they truly feel a life-threatening asthma attack. When she was describing her near-death attack when she was a child, it brought me back to the one I had when I was 14. The last though of looking up on the ceiling of an EMT vehicle is unsettling. On that note: Kudos to health professionals…they rock! – R

as with ms. crane’s last installment, its such a refreshing change to see a series focused on sex workers who are proud of their profession instead of portrayed as lost little girls who run away to los angeles with stars in their eyes and wind up victimized. equally appealing is the clever recession angle to the series, making it current and relevant on many different levels. ms. crane’s provocative questions paired with ms. suskin’s spellbinding images make for a magical combination

Its good to see someone starting to pull of the lid of the ignored ‘real’ world of the sex worker in a way this isn’t mired in self-promotion or in gratuitous titillation and exploitation. Ms. Crane pointed questions are ones that are new and unseen. Most who interview sex workers don’t seem to have the depth of experience and understanding as she does thus allowing the interviewee to relax and allow the truth to flow. Marry the intimate eye of the classic photography of Romy Suskin you have a real champ of a series going on here. I look forward to reading more intuitive stories and seeing more challenging images by both of these talented women.

The photo of his forearm across her abdomen…essential, amazing. Within that one shot, sensuality, pain, protection, and the risk of continuing on this way, but… it is so fucking sexy that you could see why it just may be worth the risk.
