Just finished "Await Your Reply" this morning, and as all of the reviews thus far have stated, it is by far Chaon's most haunting, shocking, and beautifully-written work thus far. Great interview, too!

This was really interesting. I'm a fiction writer and fan of Chaon. I liked the talk around craft and how honest he was about his strengths and weaknesses as a fiction writer. Can't wait to read his new novel. Anyone who hasn't read his last book should read it now!!!

was a great interview. i thought molly antopol's questions were thoughtful and good, and dan chaon comes off as smart and funny but also humble. i loved a story i read of his a couple years ago in the ohenry prize book and will definitely read the others now.

What a fascinating interview and a thoughtful novelist. I'm ashamed to admit I've never read Dan Chaon before, but happy to say I've just ordered his book on Amazon! Looking forward.

This interview presents such an honest and humble perspective about the craft of writing a novel. Molly's questions allow Chaon to talk about his experiences--in both his personal life and his writing life--in a truly compelling way. And as a result, Chaon provides some vital insights about the writing process here.

I was first introduced to Chaon's work 6 years ago, when my mentor at a small college near Cleveland (close to where he teaches) told me I'd like his work. I picked up "Among the Missing" in an a little jewelry/art shop in Cleveland, and I did indeed love it. I then, while working as an Assistant Editor for the lit-mag, Artful Dodge, my professor publishes, had the opportunity to read the galleys of several short-shorts Mr. Chaon published in the mag. I've long wanted to read his novels. Now seems to be the time.

Matt: I clicked the play button right by the track number, which brought me to a page where the song streamed live (had to click the play button again, in the black box in the top right hand corner of the screen). I don't have a last.fm account.

Matt: I think you have to have a last.fm account. I'm sorry I didn't realize this. However, it's free to sign up.

Has anyone been able to get the playlist of music to work? I'd love to hear the songs he picked, but no go.

This is such a fascinating piece -- I love all the inside dope on the practical choices writers make. I think it really adds layers of insight when you have writers interviewing other writers. They're able to get at things lay people might not even know to ask about. Now off to read Dan Chaon for the first time...very excited!
