I used to live in Bethel and know exactly the bookstore/cafe/poetry group you're talking about! Those bookstore owners have always been mean, but I've bought a lot of books from them. I lived above the bike shop, just down the street. The poetry group is great--some of the first people I met in Connecticut that I actually liked.
