Edouard Hil’ — a popular Soviet stage singer. He recorded some of the most classic Soviet hits (for example, “C чего начинается Родина” — “What does the Motherland begin with”).
The Russian Wikipedia page about him (http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%AD%D0%B4%D1%83%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B4_%D0%A5%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C) describes his voice as “bright, sonorous and airborne lyric baritone that carries a strong charge of optimism and humor.”
