Jillian--Makes me want to read this book, almost as much as I want to read yours! Thanks for articulating your response so well. Takes me back to when I was sixteen and had a life-sized Marilyn Poster on my bedroom wall . . .

It was "truer" than any biography I have read of her. Beautifully written. I don't recall reading a "bad" review, but I might have been looking elsewhere. People get down on Oates, but it's usually just harping on her being so prolific. I haven't seen anything that disses her writing. Anyway, this is one of her best books since _Them_. I loved it, and I hated having to give it back to the library.

I think you gave me the push I needed to actually read this one--I'll make it my next, whenever I'm done with the new Richard Bausch. A friend of mine recommended Blonde pretty strongly, but the book is so long, and the bad reviews so many and vehement, I was afraid.
