The Rumpus: What’s wrong with hip hop?

Natasha Leggero: My brother (aka Nickname) is actually a talented rapper.  I wrote that joke after hearing 9 different songs where they steal the entire chorus from another song and just yell over it.  There are a lot of heated, misspelled arguments on the comment section of that video if you are interested. But essentially it’s just a joke.  Some comics are able to just spout one liners off the top of their head but for me to write a joke something really terrible has to happen–like Beyonce releases a new album.

Rumpus: Did you do musicals as a kid? What’s your music background?

Leggero: No but I wish America would replace all the tvs in restaurants, bars and and DMV’s with pianos!

Rumpus: This is kind of a weird question, but why comedy?

Leggero: I heard it was super easy and could make you really rich.  Why internet journalism?

Rumpus: What’s the worst project you’ve ever been involved in?

Leggero: I answered phones at a brothel in Australia for a day.

Rumpus: Do you think Twitter helps your career?

Leggero: If your career is getting Carls Jr to name a salad dressing after you.

Rumpus: What’s your favorite book and the last book you loved (we ask everybody that questions).

Leggero: I’m reading Ben Franklins autobiography right now- he invented post offices, fire stations and paper money in the same amount of time it took me to get a commercial agent.

Rumpus: Tell us about your new show The Strip.

Leggero: It’s created by Tom Lennon and Ben Garrant from Reno 911.  Lennon plays a former child star who owns a Hooters-type restaurant in a strip mall in the outskirts of Vegas.  I work at the restaurant.  Hopefully they don’t make me get a boob job.

Rumpus: Are you going back to South by Southwest again this year?

Leggero: Esthers Follies Mar 17.
