Jonathan Lethem has traded in the crowded Brooklyn literary scene for a classroom in sunny Southern California.

Nevertheless, he’s currently at work on a novel set back in Queens. Lethem, who describes one of his past books as “an all-out Valentine” to New York, is no stranger to writing about that city from a distance.
