I was "introduced" to Aimee Bender by Nik Perring, a British short story writer who interviewed her on his blog. On his recommendation, the first story I read was "The Rememberer," where a woman's boyfriend devolves over a short period of time into an amoeba.

Just love her writing, and she inspires me in my attempts.

I like Aimee Bender I like Aimee Bender I like Aimee Bender! (And I learned that from her, she has a short story where a girl repeats a line three times) and I thought, yup that's how we really talk so when I really dig it I repeat it three times and it reads like glee (hopefully). I just got the paper back Lemon Cake and looking forward to it and loved the Red Ribbon story that showed up in Electric Literature. Aimee Bender opened up something really fun in my fiction that I forgot about.

I always imagine Aimee Bender as, like this fairy princess who lives in an Edward Scissorhands castle on a hill and writes on a talking typewriter, so it's always nice to read interviews like these and remember she's a human like the rest of us, albeit definitely a lady with a touch of the glamour. I love her cheerful defense of the LA fiction writing community, as well as her LA author recommendations. Great questions Rumpus, great answers Aimee!
