Help keep the New York Public Library open!

The library is taking a severe blow due to major budget cuts (the highest cut in 100 years). They’re asking for donations and letters to elected officials, hoping to prevent the shutdown of services that the cuts would bring about. Unfortunately the $40 million reduction in library funding is part of Mayor Bloomberg’s major budget cuts that are affecting all city employees, including 5% of the city’s schoolteachers.

“…the Bloomberg budget would cut $40 million from the city library system, forcing it to ‘slash its book-buying budget, cut back to just four days of service a week and possibly close up to 12 locations, lay off hundreds of workers, and eliminate countless programs and classes, despite being used by New Yorkers more than ever before.’”
