The sum of utopian tech dreams and music sharing could just be the cloud, “the poetic name for online storage and software that promises to make lifetimes worth of songs available to anyone, anywhere, as long as those people and places have Internet connections.”

The personal history of your sonic explorations could all be online, making music even more accessible and downloadable than ever. This dream doesn’t exactly account for the sound quality issues that that arise from MP3 compression or the financial problems it would exacerbate for the music industry, but it’s a crazy concept.
