Dyer’s “Reading Life”
If you haven’t heard by now, we are at the precipice of Geoff Dyer’s latest venture in the New York Times, a weekly column for the Book Review called, “Reading Life.” Thus we will all be in touch with his reader whims, which is nice because sometimes it’s nice to have a buddy in the weekly torrent of literary happenings. Being part of somebody’s ups and downs as a reader seems comforting.
His first column is on the format of academic writing and research papers—the kind of writing that begins with an abstract-like announcement of what’s to come: “the style of perpetual announcement of what is about to happen to extremes of deferment that have never been seen before. Imminence here becomes immanent.”
