This week in New York, the Franklin Park and Belladonna Reading Series; Margaret Atwood on science fiction; Debut Fiction Reading with Teju Cole, Anna Solomon, and Rebecca Wolff; Henry Rollins at McNally Jackson; Poets House Sleepover for Members; Flash fiction at the InDigest Reading.

MONDAY 10/10: The Franklin Park Reading Series presents, “Nocturnes,” featuring Alexander Chee, The Queen of the Night; Blake Butler, Nothing: A Portrait of Insomnia; poet Robin Beth Schaer; Scott McClanahan, Stories, Stories II; and Sarah Rose Etter, Tongue Party. $4 pints. Franklin Park Bar and Beer Garden. 8 p.m. Free.

TUESDAY 10/11: The Belladonna Reading Series will feature German poet and translator Uljana Wolf, kochanie ich habe brot gekauftfalsche freunde and poet Erica Kaufman, censory impulse. There will also be a short open mic for poets with pieces 1-3 minutes long. Dixon Place. 7:30 p.m. $6

WEDNESDAY 10/12: It’s the Center for Fiction’s Big Read keynote reading with Margaret Atwood. She will talk about her new book, In Other Worlds: SF and the Human Imagination, and how science fiction has impacted both her life and her work. Lynch Theater at John Jay College. 7 p.m. $15, general public; $12 for CF members. Free for CUNY faculty, staff, and students with photo ID.

THURSDAY 10/13: Debut Fiction Reading with authors Teju Cole, Open City: A Novel; Anna Solomon, The Little Bride; and Fence editor Rebecca Wolff’s novel, The Beginners. All of these books were published in 2011. Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House. 7 p.m. Free.

FRIDAY 10/14: Henry Rollins, former singer for Black Flag, will discuss his new book of photographs and commentary, Occupants, with musician Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. McNally Jackson. 7 p.m. Free.

SATURDAY 10/15: Are you a member of Poets House? Go sleepover to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. There will be poetry, discussion, and sleeping amongst the stacks of poetry books. Poet and certified hypnotherapist Kristin Prevallet will lead the group in a poetic hypnotic induction. Poets House. 9 p.m. $50 for Poets House Members (must be a member to participate).

SUNDAY 10/16: It’s a night of flash fiction at the InDigest reading. Featuring Kim Chinquee, Pretty, Oh Baby; Adam Golaski, Color Plates, Worse Than Myself; Krystal Languell, Call the Catastrophists; and Helen Phillips, And Yet They Were Happy. Hosted by Ashleigh Lambert. The Gallery at (Le) Poisson Rouge. 6:30 p.m. Free.
