ZYZZYVA interviewed Dagoberto Gilb, acclaimed author and the current executive director of Centro Victoria: Center for Mexican American Literature and Culture. Gilb touched on the Texan literary scene, Latino literature, and his newly published collection of stories, Before the End, After the Beginning (Rumpus reviewed here).

“What I think a collection of short fiction can do—and that I believe is underestimated and undervalued by arbiters of lit (who think the “big” novel offers so much more than a volume of stories)—is, like poetry, write “small” to speak large. Artistically it’s like the rings in gymnastics, not a running event like a marathon.”
