Thank you.

Grrrr. I hate being reminded (however eloquently) to remember to appreciate how crazy great parenting can be at whatever your child's age. So much better to stew over the inconvenience of having to read "one more book/chapter" to the child at bedtime when I need to get on with my reading random stuff on the internet before passing out so I can start again tomorrow.... Ok, fine, I'll appreciate the reminder just this one time.

Thank you. And it's not just toddlers. This reminder comes at the perfect moment on my life with our 5-year-old. Who, by the way, does not listen. That doesn't change as soon as you might hope!

Loved this. As a mom of twin one year-olds, it's nice to be reminded of what other people see when they see my girls. (I see it too, just, um, not all the time...) :)

lovely piece indeed. it is the small, maddening, glorious, lightening-fast moments that make up parenting. As for boots--I order at least 3 different sizes from zappos and then start returning what doesn't fit. easy!

I also try and remember to find beauty in the snotty nosed, mismatched, gumbooted, dress-upped, rasta haired little person in my life. Mostly they are just little bundles of passion - who else would be able to socially transition from pure, decible defying delight to roars of dispair and outrage in a heartbeat? Children are our cure for mediocracy, they are the balm on the chafe of our day, they are who we really want to still be. I am going out to play now.

You've done a wonderful job-bringing tears to my not-so easily teared up eyes. I have a 4 and a 1 year old and they are a lot- of everything, time, and work and energy- but it's nice to pull back and be able to remember how wonderful they are too. (in my house, my son was generally referred to as the "baby dictator", but I'm liking the teensy emperor as well). Thanks for writing it!
