What luscious flavours and always air to breathe in your work, thanks for the link to this piece. I am reminded of Grandmother Woolf by Patricia Tyrrell: it’s set in Beirut and is very different, however, like your work here an insight into the underbelly of these places, difficult and challenging to live in, how real people live in them. Loved this piece. I’m in Tel Aviv for the month of June, staying near the beach, but walking all over, day and night, and you really catch the feel of it here. My favorite detail: peeling ham off sandwiches for tomorrow’s customers. And the mirpesset. Very evocative..

Hey Samantha. Thanks. And yes, you’re right, though in Israel people tend to call all those slow-cooked-overnight casseroles by the generic name of hamin, so I just kind of mixed them all up. Wrongly. I love t’beet!
