One last thought in response to AshevilleKC... while it does take some funds to travel, I think the essence of travel captured in this interview and possibly the book is to look where you are and find the magic there. Also, there are LOTS of ways to see the world including volunteer ops overseas, free flights with points on credit cards, hostels, etc. - of course, unless fear is the real reason. ;-)

This was a terrific interview on many levels. But what I loved the MOST was the statement, "The greatest way to overcome fear is to get out of the house and to get out of the house alone." When I couple it with the underpinning of how every moment has an "underpinning of how this will change your life," I have words to express the current of why I write. I've stayed at home literally as a mom and now my kid is a teen. Last year we went to Costa Rica and are eyeing other overseas opportunities to dig in. I want him to lose and find himself in overseas travel. Until then, I'm getting OUT of the HOUSE and writing the blog with the essence that there are moments that are glittering and others need to know about them - and then go find their own, or just be aware of them.
Again, thanks for the conversation here, and may it spark others to get out there- wherever that is for them.

I loved the interview and I am looking forward to the book. I was also a solitary traveler, from the time I was 18 and spending several months working overseas each year and college in the US, with about a month off in between to travel.
Now that I am almost 30 years married with grandchildren, I wish I could take them on some of the places I experienced then, but of course, I do not think any of them would have the same impact on any of us that they did on me so many years ago, and sadly, my current financial status would not allow me to do so anyway.
I could certainly identify with the fear aspect propelling me to the next big adventure however.
