History of Tattoos
The fact that tattoos existed in a time before “punk” was a word to describe a movement is a hard notion to grasp.
The New Yorker has compiled a series of photographs of women in the early to mid 20th century baring their tattoos. Many of them were pioneering tattoo artists themselves or worked as fair and circus attractions.

I got my first tattoo at age 60. It was a birthday present from my daughter who has many. I say first because tattoos are like potato chips, you can’t just have one. Recently I was contacted through Facebook by the partner of my son. This is the son I gave up for adoption at birth. He’s a tattoo artist in the California desert. I asked him to design a tattoo with his name and the names of my other two kids. He said he would. I can’t wait to see it.
