Laurie, A beautifully written piece. I am going through separation and a friend gave me a copy of Wild Geese. Until I read your piece I never truly understood why they gave me that poem. Now I do. “You do not have to be good”, but your piece is exceptionally so.

so beautiful and powerful essay. I really like the image of falling in and out of love being a trapdoor. I recently had a conversation with a friend about erotic love being a physical attraction. the more I thought about that it didn’t seem complete. I fell in love with her, not any of the other women I dated before her. there was something that happened with her that didn’t happened with some other woman. I fell down, through a trap door.
