We moved a lot when my daughter was young and she complained that she was always "the new girl" which she hated. I responded that this could be good: character building, confidence enhancing. In this interview I hear that same conversation. As soon as we get comfortable, that time is past and we must face and adjust to a new time. And although the possibility is always there to produce confidence, mostly, "the new girl" syndrome kicks in and we must begin from scratch.

I love this interview - the format, the candor, the informality. Also, it's good to read about someone else having a warped relationship to time. Frequently I tell people that about myself and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

I thought immediately of the phrase, tell me a story of deep delight. Interviews aren't normally a source of that deep delight for me, but this one is. The honesty between the voices creates (not surprisingly) a childlike quality, a playfulness and that's infectious. I love it when I can trust writers this way, especially in nonfiction moments, and just let them take me along for the ride. Awesome.
