Sounds like a great movie. Wish I knew about this a couple of days earlier. That way I would've avoided going on with the Notebook all over again last night.

My girlfriend and I saw this last night and were blown away. We're both dealing with aging parents now, and Amour captured all of the love and frustration and brutal humiliating reality of how that all works. No guns, no CIA agents, no gore, no CGI. Just the most common and heartbreaking of human experiences, one that most of us have endured or will endure. All of us will die, most of us slowly, and most of us will eventually watch a parent or spouse die, slowly, yet that most normal of life's events rarely gets portrayed realistically in film.

I hope it wins everything it's nominated for, but up against Avatar With Tigers and The Exploding N-Word Gore Circus and La Femme Waterboard and Three-Act Affleck it probably doesn't stand much of a chance.

Great review.

I didn't know anything about Michael Haenke before reading this. I really want to see his other films now and I really want to see Amour. Other reviews and descriptions of Amour that I had picked up from friends who have seen the film and from the press did not offer nearly as much insight as I found here. Thanks!
