Sympathy for the Library-Fine Dodger

By

You can’t always get what you want…and if what Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones wants is forgiveness for decades-old library fines, then he’s out of luck.

Actually, that’s probably not true—many libraries have an amnesty day where you can come in and wipe your record clean for free.

Still, it would be a nice gesture for Richards to pay some of the £20,000 he possibly owes, given that as a teenager he considered it an oasis from the dreariness of small-town life: “It was a place where you get a hint there was a place called civilisation,” he told the Sun.

It seems worth noting that Wikipedia calls the jilted library “reportedly haunted“—perhaps by Richards’s sense of civic duty, which clearly died long ago? Hmmm?
