Sunday 12/1: It’s the last night of Here’s the Story for 2013, and it’s a doozy. For this year end celebration, they ditch the open mic portion and have a lineup of audience-selected favorites. Come out for the usual potluck, and listen to the year’s best stories. 7:30 p.m., $8 (or a dish to share), Stage 773.

Monday 12/2: Tonight is a night of fierce competition. LitMash pits storytellers, essayists, poets and more against one another. Rumpus favorite Sam Irby is taking on the likes of Katie Prout, Malcolm London, Tim Stafford, Emily Rose, and Shannon Cason. May the best writer win! 8 p.m., $8, Haymarket Pub & Brewery

Tuesday 12/3: Come out for #WordPlay, Chicago’s longest running youth writing workshop and all-aged open mic. The workshop starts at 6 p.m., with the open mic kicking off at 7 p.m. 6/7 p.m., free, Young Chicago Authors.

Wednesday 12/4: Step out for a drink and some literature. Reading Under the Influence is back at Sheffield’s this week. Join Ben Tazer, Joseph Bates, Mark Cronin, and Abby Sheaffer. 7:30 p.m., $3, Sheffield’s.

Thursday 12/5: Story Club is prepping us all for the upcoming weeks with a night of stories on the theme of “Holidays”. Join a handful of featured performers and a couple lucky open mic-ers as they regale us all with their tales of festivities. 7:30 p.m., $10 suggested donation, Holiday Club.
