Scott was so moved and impressed by hearing Parker’s album that he was inspired to do a special episode of Make/Work while on hiatus from the podcast. Archipelago is a beautiful, rich, ambitious album and Scott speaks with Parker about the many years it took her to make it. Along the way they get into Parker’s upbringing as the only child of two cautious accountants who both pulled themselves out of extreme poverty to create a life of vastly expanded options for their daughter.
I looked down the road at my life and thought, “If I don’t (make this record) there are going to be some dire consequences.”
Every creative laborer has a different story to tell about how they negotiate their relationship between their creative work and their paycheck and how they balance their lives to sustain their creative practice. In Make/Work, Scott will speak with emerging and established artists working in a wide range of creative mediums about how they survive, how they make a living, and how they maintain their work over the long term.
