Friday 5/19: Emil Ferris reads from My Favorite Thing Is Monsters at Women & Children First. 7:30 p.m., free.

Saturday 5/20: Join Chicago historical mystery writers Susanna Calkins, Cheryl Honigford, Michelle Cox, and D.M. Pirrone, as they gather for a lively panel discussion about their work and all things mystery! The Book Cellar, 6 p.m., free.

Sunday 5/21: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.

Wednesday 5/24: THE CONVERSATION continues at Women & Children First with a discussion of the intersection of the environment, labor, and class. Featuring Jennifer Haigh, Antonio Lopez, Eiren Caffall, and moderated by Zoe Zolbrod. 7:30 p.m., free.

Thursday 5/25: Visit City Lit Books to celebrate the book launch of Meghan Lamb’s new book, Silk Flowers. Meghan will be joined by Annah Browning and Amanda Goldblatt. 6:30 p.m., free.

Women & Children First hosts an author conversation with Sarah Ladipo Manyika and Chris Abani. 7:30 p.m., free.
