Tuesday 2/8: The Microscopic Giant is a bi-monthly open-mic and live painting session at Space Gallery. Thursday 2/10: See Rumpus Books Editor, Andrew Foster Altschul, at Books Inc. Opera Plaza for the launch of his new book, Deus Ex Machina. Altschul’s novel explores the inevitable ways in which artists affect their creations, and the subjectivity of “reality” in a reality television saturated society.  7pm @ 601 Van Ness Avenue.

Friday 2/11: It’s time for another literary smack down at the Elbo Room. Literary Death Match takes over with readings by Monica Nolan (Bobby Blanchard, Lesbian Gym Teacher), Geoff Bouvier (Living Room), John Scott (StraightMaleFriend.com), and Jennifer Solow (The Booster and The Aristobrats), being judged by Oscar Villalon, April Sinclair, and Sam Barry. Wednesday 11/24: Beach Blanket Babylon gets even more ridiculous for the holidays with tap dancing Christmas trees and a gigantic yuletide hat.  Catch the festive debauchery at one of their special holiday shows.  Tickets $25+, 8pm @ 678 Beach Blanket Babylon Boulevard (less excitingly known as Green Street).

Thursday 11/25: Whether nursing a beer after a long day of putting up with family, or meeting friends for drinks and giving thanks for dive bar dinners, the Mission is hands down the best neighborhood for drinks on any major holiday.  Stop by Zeitgeist for “warm beer and cold women” any day of the year, head to The Knockout for holiday bingo and possible karaoke, or dance off your dinner with live DJs at either the Makeout Room or the Elbo Room. Various locations, see links for details.  All 21+, bar hours vary, but if you’ve got stamina, you can give thanks for your favorite dives from 9am-2am.

Friday 11/26: While many shoppers will be simulating homelessness by camping out for that plasma-screen-iVideo-Wii-matic something or other this Black Friday, you can do something about actual homelessness by supporting the Creative Housing Liberation’s “Thanks-taking” Housing Harvest. The civil disobedience will begin with a rally, followed by a mass march, and ending with a vacant housing takeover to protest the 36,000 vacant units in a city with a homeless population of over 6,000.  The good folks of Food Not Bombs will provide a delicious meal while you listen to live music and guest speakers Tommi Avicolli Mecca, Gabriel Haaland, “Anna Conda” Glendon Hyde, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, and James Tracy. The rally starts at 3pm at the 16th and Mision BART station.

Saturday 11/27: Miss Scarlet in the billiard room with the rope!  Experience what Clue‘s Wadsworth, Peacock, Plum and company did for yourself at the Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show. It’s pretty self explanatory, no?  Tickets $80+, 6:30pm @ 555 North Point Street.

Sunday 11/28: Now that you’ve conscientiously abstained from the consumerist cluster fuck that is Black Friday, get a start on your holiday shopping the right way at Madrone’s Craft Bar Pop-up Shop.  Stop by any time between 1 and 8pm for drink specials, food, and handmade wares from local artists, jewelers, and designers.  Come in after 9pm for Madrone’s Sunday Sessions — live music with organist Wil Blades. Free all day, 21+, 1pm-midnight @ 500 Divisadero Street.
