For a limited time, NPR is offering an Exclusive First Listen to a collaboration of Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse‘s multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous that may never be released. How does David Lynch figure into the picture? The album was to accompany a book of Lynch’s photographs. But now the album, which complements Lynch’s surrealist tendencies, may not be released due to disputes with EMI. A project that originated with the pinning of obscure posters around Austin’s SXSW festival that read “Dark Knight of the Soul,” may end in obsolescence. Lynch’s book will now proffer an empty CD-R. The album’s title alludes to an expression, referenced by spiritual traditions throughout the world, of loneliness and desolation.
