Joyce Carol Oates talks about her new novel, inspired by her stalker:
Stephen King is a friendly acquaintance. He has been a very generous individual in the world of genre fiction, and of fiction generally. But more particularly, King was once “stalked” by an emotionally disturbed woman who also “stalked” me, about twenty years ago.
Back in 2012, we published an essay by Lauren Becker called “Safety” about her experience being stalked. It was beautifully written and one of the scariest things you’ll ever read.
Now, almost a year later, she’s written a followup piece for Nailed about the aftermath of that essay and life after escaping her stalker:
I thought it would be healing to write about it.
