I love this story – you totally captured the weird spell celebrity casts upon us mere mortals. I also love your drawings, I love the cartooning – so, so good! Fave line: “pre-internet stalking tools.”
This is great: Funny how everyone spends a lot of time analyzing why the band doesn’t live up to expectations and generally making judgments about people at the party… only to realize that maybe the right thing to do in this situation is just have a good time!
Thanks for reading, pals, and thanks for your kind words! It was definitely one of the more surreal evenings I’ve had. (And yes, I still have the underwear–sorry, Roger.)
The very first frame brought me right back to my early high school days when I had the magazine pix all over my walls, too. I have trepidation about meeting famous people because I’d hate for my naive expectations to be shattered. Great story and comic–wish I could have been there!!
Only two months ago, I went to a party where I felt gut-punched in the stomach because a colleague INTRODUCED ME TO SHAUN CASSIDY, who was also a random party guest. WHO I THEN TALKED WITH FOR A HALF HOUR. Holy shit, he was so dreamy. He was a delight–kind, funny, down-to-earth. And when he realized I was pregnant, he laid his hand on my stomach. (Not Roger Taylor’s underpants, but still.) Thanks for your fabulous story, beautifully told.
Great story and drawings! I can relate to it so much (not that I’ve partied with the boys, but I’ve met them). Believe, me Simon was not an asshole at all when it happened .
Ahaha! This comic is awesome, what a great story and beautifully told! And that feeling of mortification mingled with excitement is captured peeerfectly.
Another great story, beautifully told! I think the only good, easy interactions I have are the ones I never think about again, so then I forget them all and am left only with the awkward memories.
Been a secret fan of yours for some time. Another great story. Just reading the words “Duran Duran” makess me feel old, but immediatley sucked me into the story line. I guess we do get a little crazy over celebrities.

Only because the story is so well told and so well drawn will I associate my mortified, star struck name to it
