This week in San Francisco: holiday spirit at the Union Square Ice Rink, distilled spirits at the SF Indy Spirit Expo, and spirited performances at Point Break Live!
Monday 11/16: Start the week off right with Love, God, Sex (and other stuff I don’t have), Rick Reynolds’ comedic autobiographical performance directed by Jason Alexander (yes, Mister George Costanza himself). 8pm, $20-$35, Marines Memorial Theater, 609 Sutter St.
Tuesday 11/17: Make the chilly weather work in your favor for once and stop by the Holiday Ice Rink at Union Square for your annual dose of hot cocoa, holiday cheer, and public self embarrassment. Open weekdays until 6pm, $9 adults, $4.50 children.
Wednesday 11/18: See Ishmael, Elijah, Ahab, Queequeg, Daggoo, and all of your favorite members of the Pequod crew come to life through film, photography, sculpture, and painting at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art’s Moby Dick exhibit. Be there at 5pm for an informal lecture with James Gobel, interim chair of Painting and Drawing, as part of the institute’s Small Talk series. Free at 5pm, 1111 8th St.
Thursday 11/19: Head to The Mighty after 6pm for the SF Indy Spirits Expo and meet some of the good people who make San Francisco’s thriving culinary cocktail scene the booming business that it is. Meet the makers, sample their wares, and then maybe call in a “work from home” day on Friday… 21+, $50, 119 Utah St.
Friday 11/20: In a bizarre and tragic accident somewhere in Brooklyn, Jerry Fuchs, drummer of The Juan MacLean, recently fell to his death in an elevator shaft. Tonight, Juan DJs a tribute set to his longtime musical partner/best friend at Mezzanine, with all proceeds benefiting the family of the late musician. Doors at 9, 21+, $13 advance tickets, 444 Jessie St.
Saturday 11/21: Big waves, beer, skydiving, beer, criminal justice, and more beer! Back by popular demand, Point Break Live! is taking over weekends at the Metreon Action Theater once again. Put on your best semi-coherent Ted Logan/Neo/Klaatu game face (because, let’s face it, they’re all the same) for a chance to star as Johnny Utah himself and Live the ride! 8pm, $25, 101 4th St.
Sunday 11/22: BBoys meet haute culture at the 11th Annual Hip-Hop DanceFest. Dancers from 22 international performance groups will gather at the Palace of Fine Arts for your viewing pleasure. 2pm, tickets $35-$62, 3301 Lyon St.
