Rachel Maddow has done incredible on-site reporting since this started, both serious and light-hearted. The latter is important too, I feel. In last night’s Cocktail Moment, Maddow does her first ever jello shot, aptly named a Tar Ball.

When I was a kid in Louisiana over 30 years ago, we learned that our state bird, the brown pelican, had basically gone extinct in the state, but that efforts were being made to bring it back. Those efforts succeeded, but the oil spill threatens them again.
