This week in San Francisco, The Monthly Rumpus is all happening, free PBR and laughs at the Roxie and Bay to Breakers is here, again, for the 100th time!
Monday, May 9th – You’ve been waiting for this for, like, a whole month. This month’s Rumpus is entitled “No More Mistakes Left to Make” and I think it’s right. Listen to outrageously talented authors Cheryl Strayed (made me cry), Dylan Landis, Lidia Yuknavitch and Jim Shepard and then bring it in a lil’ closer for the Slow Motion Cowboys – San Francisco’s favorite crooners of campfire country. Makeout Room, 7pm, $10. I will see you there. Won’t I?
Tuesday, May 10th – Free beer and comedy for only $6.50 at the Roxie! I always see a huge line outside this place and now I’m starting to realize it’s because there is always something awesome happening there. For example, head over for free beer (!) and this many comedians: Donny Divanian, Chris Garcia, Emily Heller, Sean Keane, Alex Koll, Cory Loykasek, Lydia Popovich, Chris Thayer and Mimi Vilmenay.
Wednesday, May 11th – Bi-Rite previews their spring wine blitz with a $10 wine tasting at 18 Reasons at 6pm. Yum.
Thursday, May 12th – Paul Lisicky will be reading from his new novel, The Burning House, with local authors Ryan Van Meter and Tracy Seeley, whose new nonfiction book is My Ruby Slippers. Get over to the Evening Salon of the Hotel Rex, at 562 Sutter at 7pm.
Friday, May 13th – Ardist, a new online artists’ collaborative that serves to promote the careers of the San Francisco arts community, is throwing their launch party at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall. Founder, Eric Barry says, “We’re giving luck the finger!” Join him, the Monophonics and Aurora Activity Pony for what will be a rip-roarin’ good time. Details.
Saturday, May 14th – Oh man, this is awesome. Yo-yo contest in Washington Square! $2,000 Grand Prize and free yo-yo lessons! Neat-o.
Sunday, May 15th – Bay to Breakers turns 100. Gonna be a party. That is all.
Adieu, adieu, achoo!
