TUESDAY 9/20: Author and translator Damion Searls will read from his new translation of Proust’s essay, “On Reading,” and discuss both Proust and Ruskin at the Center for Fiction. 7 p.m. Free.
WEDNESDAY 9/21: The Center for Book Arts celebrates the opening of fall exhibitions. Co-currently opening are Peace, Love and Rockets (an exhibition of examples of production and design within the independent music industry) and Featured Artist Projects: Emily Martin: Theme & Variation; Su Blackwell: 2011 Bishop Faculty Fellow; and the 2010-11 Van Lier/ Stein Family Scholars: Katie Baldwin, Kimberly McClure, Sarah McDermott, and Benjamin Reynaert. 7 p.m. Free.

FRIDAY 9/23: The Asian American Writers’ Workshop is hosting Mouth to Mouth: MOM MIC Part II, featuring Asian American parents (and kids) telling the truth about their childhoods. Featuring Marina Budhos, author of Tell Us We’re Home, D’LO, and Cindy Cheung. Hosted by Jen Kwok and Ed Lin who will entertain with a ukelele and jokes between performances. Also a chance for the audience to share their stories. 8 p.m. $5 suggested donation, free if you’re a mom or you bring your mom.
SATURDAY 9/24: Tonight’s show at (Le) Poisson Rouge features some of my favorite musicians in the world. Word, Rock, & Sword: A Musical Celebration of Women includes Toshi Reagon, Tamar-kali, Joan As Police Woman, Meshell Ndegeocello, Morley, Imani Uzuri, Marcelle Davies Lashley, Alsarah, Stephanie Battle, Arooj Aftab, Judith Casselberry, Invincible, Slanty Eyed Mama, Stephanie McKay, and more. Guaranteed to be an unforgettable night of music. 6 p.m. $20.
SUNDAY 9/25: Housing Works Bookstore Café is hosting its annual all-day shopping bazaar on Crosby Street. Books, records, and CDs for $1! Plus clothes, shoes, and accessories on sale from the thrift shop. Music by local bands from noon to 4 p.m. Bazaar begins at 10 a.m.
