New Yorker columnist Ben Greenman has transcribed bits of an interview that took place at this year’s BookExpo America between Patti Smith and Neil Young, on the subject of Young’s forthcoming memoir Waging Heavy Peace.
Smith, whose own 2010 memoir Just Kids garnered the coveted National Book Award, told Young: “Our books are very different, but I think there’s something about them that’s similar. Neither was written vindictively or to settle a score. Both were written humanistically.” You can read more about their discussion (and see a photograph of Neil Young sporting a truly impressive poncho) here.
