MONDAY 11/12: This month’s Franklin Park Reading Series features Electric Literature writers Lynne Tillman (American Genius), J. Robert Lennon (Familiar), Stephen O’Connor (Here Comes Another Lesson), and Seth Fried (The Great Frustration). 8pm, free.
TUESDAY 11/13: Poets Sandra Liu, Ken Chen, Cate Marvin, and Thomas Sayers Ellis read at Public Assembly. 7pm, free.
WEDNESDAY 11/14: Defiance, a literary benefit for Sandy-devestated Red Hook, features readings by Kurt Andersen, Steve Earle, Chuck Klosterman, Philip Gourevitch, and Sam Lipsyte (among others). Littlefield (622 Degraw St., Brooklyn); 7pm doors, 8pm show, $50.
A.M. Homes (May We Be Forgiven) and Joan Wickersham (The News From Spain) read at McNally Jackson. 7pm, free.
THURSDAY 11/15: The Center for Fiction hosts Christine Schutte, who will read from her most recent novel, Prosperous Friends. 7pm, free.
FRIDAY 11/16: WORD hosts the opening night of New York’s first-ever Moby-Dick marathon, which will last all weekend and will continue at Housing Works Bookstore Café and Molasses Books on Saturday, and Housing Works on Sunday. Free, opening night reception at 5pm, famous first line at 6pm.
SATURDAY 11/17: Pure Imagination presents storytelling (a live reading of the darkly absurd “Death Takes the Train”) with live musical accompaniment at The West. 8pm, free.
