This week in San Francisco!#$#$@!
Monday 12/17: For folks who didn’t do, but are considering doing, things that everyone else did this year, The Dark Knight Rises is showing tonight. One of the year’s biggest movies, and it’s free. The Independent. 8pm.
Tuesday 12/18: Write Club pits writers against each other for your applause and affection. Two writers, seven minutes each, the winner gets published online and the loser is a loser (but joins the after-danceparty with everyone else), and everyone gets on the podcast. $5, 8pm Make Out Room.
Wednesday 12/19: Editors Jane Mount and Thessaly La Force launch My Ideal Bookshelf, a lovely coffee table piece full of interviews with authors, designers, musicians, and other people you’ve probably admired, and whose lists of favorite books may inspire. Free, 6pm, the Makeshift Society.
Thursday 12/20: Any Last Words? tips its hat to the coming of the Mayan Apocalypse (tomorrow, by some accounts, and not, by others), with 40 comics telling the last jokes of their lives. $8, Sub-Mission Gallery.
Friday 12/21: Happy winter solstice. Celebrate with Last Call, live art in the Castro, featuring mixed media art and performances, as well as pieces on sale for holiday gifts. 6pm-all night, at the old Tower Records. And maybe it’s time to get a gift for yourself.
Saturday 12/22: The Telegraph Holiday fair happens on the Cal campus-stretch of Telegraph today, featuring all kinds of weird and wonderful gifting potential for next week. Free, all day.
