Most of the time at the Rumpus Book Clubs we get books 3-4 weeks before everyone else does. It’s one of the best reasons to join, along with the opportunity to chat online with group members and with the author at the end of the month, pick her/his brain about their process, about who they’re reading, about whatever. It’s a raucous good time.
So what makes this month different? On the fiction side, we’re reading Kyle Minor’s new collection of short stories, Praying Drunk. Kyle’s written for us before, and it’s nice to see his collection out, and that we got it so early. Like 3 months early. Like we-got-a-special-print-run early. These are like pre-first editions. (Am I geeking out over this a bit too much?) My point is that you’ll get them before Amazon does. Maybe even before Kyle does. We’ve got a few extra this month, so you still have time to get in on this.
The Poetry Club is also rocking this month with Randall Mann’s latest collection, Straight Razor. If you sign up now, you’ll get this book only about 6 weeks early, but still well before anyone else gets it. Randall is another one who’s written for us in the past. In fact, some of the poems we’ve published as part of our National Poetry Month series have found their home in Straight Razor. We’re very excited.
