Saturday 11/30: Indies First is a nationwide celebration of independent bookstores launched by author Sherman Alexie to support small businesses. Independent bookstores around New York City invited some of their favorite authors for appearances:

Teddy Wayne and Leigh Newman will be at Powerhouse Arena (DUMBO), 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., free.
Emily Jenkins and Stefan Merrill Block will be at Powerhouse on 8th, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., free.
Ayana Mathis, Paul Zelinksy, Michael Buckley, and Jeffrey Rotter will be at Greenlight Bookstore, 12 noon to 8 p.m., free.

Monday 12/2: Sari Botton, Elissa Bassist, Alexander Chee, Mike Albo, Emily Gould, Chloe Caldwell, Anna Holmes, Choire Sicha, Jon-Jon Goulian, Michelle Dean, and Isaac Fitzgerald join the debate on staying or leaving New York City, presented along with Vol. 1 Brooklyn. Botton edited the collection Goodbye to All That (October 2013) featuring essays by writers who have abandoned New York, or in some cases temporarily vacated to later return.
