Mandy Kahn reads from her poetry collection Math, Heaven, Time. Also featuring Becky Stark and The ∞ Angeles Ladies’ Choir performing new collaborative works that feature poetry, solo voice, and a chorus. 7:30 p.m. at Skylight Books.

Saturday 5/10: Ryan Conrad presents Against Equality. Take a thought-provoking look at LGBT struggles from a whole new angle. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Sunday 5/11: Roar Shack is back, featuring Ashley Perez, Ann Reinhart, Sara Finnerty, last month’s Live Write winner Rachael Warecki, and Lisa Cheby. Also featuring a new Live Write contest, where audience members get to vote on writing prompts and compete against the authors. 4:00 p.m. at 826LA Echo Park.

The New Short Fiction Series presents its 11th Annual Emerging Voices Group Show with new fiction by Eric Barnhart, Shanda Connolly, Julia Cooperman, Trista Payte, Sean Pessin and Cynthia Romanowski. The performance stars spoken word artist Sally Shore, with guest cast Alex Boling, Angela Gibbs, Brian Norris, Buckley Sampson, and Wilson Wong. Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel. He appeared at Dirty Laundry Lit's "Love Sucks" event in February 2013, and has stories published in "Halloween Tales" and "Winter Horror Days" from Omnium Gatherum press. And once, he slew a dragon.
