If you find the thought of erotic fan fiction based on Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women strangely titillating, as do I, this will surely shock and amuse. The Shipwreck series has been described as “…the most despicable literary event possible.” It’s a pleasure to see Literary Death Match get a run for its money. Writer and actor Baruch Porras-Hernandez will read the efforts of Kitty Stryker, Lauren Parker, Louis Evans, Eli Eogen, Felicity Rose, and John Talaga. $10 advance/$12 at the door, 7 p.m., The Booksmith.
Friday 5/8: Berkeley Poetry Review will celebrate the release of its 45th issue with readers that will include Rusty Morrison, Leora Fridman, David Alejandro Hernandez, Claire Marie Stancek, Aura Maru, and Hugo García Manríquez. Free, 7:30 p.m., Moe’s Books.
Saturday 5/9: Was the erotic fan fiction based on Little Women not exciting enough? Go hear adult legend Nina Hartley (author of Nina Hartley’s Guide to Total Sex) at Writers with Drinks. Also featured will be Shideh Etaat, Claire Bidwell Smith, and Catie Disabato. Hosted by the ever-dedicated Charlie Jane Anders. Proceeds benefit the Center for Sex and Culture. $5-$20, 7:30 p.m., Makeout Room.
Monday 5/11: Writers on Writing at SF State will feature Tom Barbash reading from his short story collection, Stay Up With Me, as well as “discussing his creative process.” Writers on Writing is an accredited spring semester course at SF State featuring faculty and visiting writers, presented by Professor Peter Orner on Monday nights, to which the public is invited.
