Thursday 4/14: A new reading series curates by Jeannie Yoon is hosting an advanced reading as a lead in to its launch. In Advance of Orange will feature Olivia Olivia, Jamondria Marnice Harris, and Manuel Arturo Abreu. Mother Foucault’s, 7 p.m., free.

Jacqueline Winspear, novelist and author of Journey to Munich, is holding a reading. Note that this is a ticketed event and purchase of book comes with entry to reading. Broadway Books, 7 p.m., free.

Friday 4/15: Acclaimed scientist Hope Jahren reads from her illuminating debut memoir, Lab Girl. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Sunday 4/17: Celebrate Portland’s fifth Silent Reading Party with your favorite print or digital book and enjoy two hours of undistracted time to read whatever you want. Happy hour prices and ambient music to accompany your reading experience. Beech Street Parlor, 3 p.m., free.

The Portland Poetry Slam hosts its sixth annual Grand Slam Finals, where nine great poets will battle for four spots on the team that will represent Portland at the 2016 National Poetry Slam in Atlanta, Georgia. Portland Center Stage, 6:30 p.m., $10.

Monday 4/18:  Malaysian-Australian rapper and poet Omar Musa reads from his debut novel, Here Come the Dogs. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Tuesday 4/19: Join Tavern Books for readings and a conversation about translation presented in partnership with Marylhurst University’s English Department, featuring Piotr Florczyk, Keith Ekiss, and Sonia P. Ticas. Tavern Books, 12:30 p.m., free.

Salon Skid Row presents Turiya Autry, Sara Sutter, Manuel Arturo Abreu, and Julie Virginia Burns for this week’s reading. The Corner Bar, 7 p.m., free.

Milepost 5 hosts a reading and open mic, featuring writers Margaret Malone, Jeff Fearnside, and Jamie Duclos-Yourdon. Art Haus Coffee, 7:30 p.m., free.

Shawn Vestal reads from his new novel, Daredevils. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.
