Thursday 8/18: Join PQ Monthly and the National Equality Publishers Association for the August issue release party. Jupiter Hotel, 5 p.m., free.

The Neuwerk series invites Richard Braucher, Stephanie Adams-Santos, and Jamondria Harris to bring their poetry to life with live music from Raymond Anderson Jernigan, and Cotton along with live performance and dance by Claire Barrera. The Waypost, 7 p.m., free.

Journalist Sarah Jaffe reads from her new book, Necessary Trouble: Americans in Revolt, and is followed up with a live conversation between her and Matt Bors, editorial cartoonist and editor of online comics for The Nib. Powell’s on Hawthorne, 7:30 p.m., free.

Saturday 8/20: Local author and editor Sam Snoek-Brown is leaving Portland—and turning forty. The Portland literary community is invited to join him for a goodbye party and reading, featuring Monica Drake, Todd McNamee, Mark Russell, Yousef Allouzi, Dena Rash Guzman, Aubrey Jarvis, and Jenny Forrester. No presents required but a donation to the IPRC is appreciated. Independent Publishing Resource Center, 7 p.m., free.

Tuesday 8/23: From the Paris Review Plimpton Prize-winning author Ottessa Moshfegh comes Eileen. Hear her read from this suspenseful novel and follow it up with a live Q&A and book signing. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Wednesday 8/24: Hear D.L Mayfield read from her memoir and apology to a community, Assimilate or Go Home: Notes from a Failed Missionary on Rediscovering Faith. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.
