At AWP this year, we held a fun flash fiction contest. Interested writers only had to write a short short story on the back of one of our postcards and turn it in by 5 p.m. on Saturday. For the winner, the glory of literary victory and $1,000. The contest was so popular, we ran out of postcards! Over the past couple months, four of us read all of the submissions and it was really difficult to narrow down many outstanding entries but toil, we did. Decisions were made.
Congratulations to Mai Tran, and her story “Intergenerational Graphic Novel.” This story uses brevity as the sharpest blade, each word twisting the knife deeper. Congrats, also, to our runners up and finalists, all of whom surprised and delighted us with their stories. Stop by our booth at AWP 2027 in Chicago, to enter our next flash fiction contest and thank you to everyone who entered.
