Bethany Maile is the author of Anything Will Be Easy After This: A Western Identity Crisis (fall 2020). Three times her essays have been notable selections in the Best American series and her work has appeared in Shenandoah, The Normal School, Prairie Schooner, and River Teeth, among others. Her essays have been anthologized in Essay Daily: A Reader and What Happened on June 21st 2018. She is writing a memoir about Alaska and motherhood, and she lives in Idaho with her husband and two daughters.

The Rumpus publishes original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, book reviews, and interviews with authors and artists of all kinds. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers our readers may already know and love. We want to bring new perspectives into the conversation that will make us all look deeper.
