Joshua Wolf Shenk is an essayist and curator. He’s the author of Lincoln’s Melancholy, a New York Times Notable Book, and essays in Harper’s Magazine, The New York Times, and The Atlantic (including “What Makes Us Happy?â€). His work has also appeared in Slate, River Teeth, The New Yorker, and the national bestseller Unholy Ghost: Writers on Depression. Josh’s most recent book, Powers of Two: Seeking the Essence of Innovation in Creative Pairs will be published on August 5 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and is a Rumpus Book Club selection. A member of the general council of The Moth, Shenk directs the Arts in Mind series on the intersection of psychology and creativity. He lives in Los Angeles and has webbed toes.
