Patrick William Kelly is a historian and writer whose work has appeared in The New York Times and the Los Angeles Review of Books, with an essay forthcoming in The Lancet Psychiatry. He writes “Minds at War,” a weekly Psychology Today column on mental illness, psychiatry, and the limits of the medical model. His first book, Sovereign Emergencies: Latin America and the Making of Global Human Rights Politics, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2018. He is completing a memoir, What the Light Was: A Memoir of a Mind at War. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
