Shiyang Su is a Chinese poet and translator. Her work can be found or is forthcoming in Copper Nickel, Black Warrior Review, The Threepenny Review, Rattle, Passages North, Verse Daily, and elsewhere. She was awarded the Phoenix New Poets New Voices in Poetry 2026, the Ron Offen Poetry Prize 2025, and the Verdant Poetry Prize 2024. Nominated for Best of the Net, her work receives support from Tin House, Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Vermont Studio Center, among others. I remember the movement of the body is policed by the space one inhabits. I remember poetry, too, is a constructed space, with rules attached to it. The rule for this poem is not to break.
